About this role

Provides the full range of distributive, clinical, consultative, research, investigational, and administrative pharmaceutical services. Incumbents select, compound, manufacture, purchase, dispense, and preserve drugs, medicines, and other therapeutic agents while serving as a member and consultant on treatment or diagnostic teams.

Applies knowledge of solubility behavior, drug stability, usages, and limitations on modes of administration. Evaluates dosages, weighs and measures drugs, mixes and compounds medications, and anticipates or prevents undesirable chemical reactions and incompatibilities.

Maintains continuous awareness of new developments in the fast-moving drug field and emerging patterns in pharmacy practice. Maintains records, documents patient data, prepares written reports, and provides oral reports concerning patient care at Stanford Health Care.

Supports the investigational drug service by coordinating pharmacy services for research, participating in sponsor site visits, supporting IRB-approved clinical trials, and serving as liaison between the study team, protocol sponsor, and nursing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
  • One (1) year of experience if completed a PGY1 residency.
  • Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
  • Ability to precept students and residents.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of solubility behavior, drug stability, and incompatibilities when evaluating dosages and permissible concentrations.
  • Apply knowledge of physical and chemical properties when computing dosages, weighing, measuring, mixing, and compounding drugs.
  • Interpret prescriptions and call physicians' attention to synergistic, antagonistic, cumulative effects, overdoses, or incompatibilities.
  • Identify fine differences between drugs as they relate to therapeutic efficacy of the products.
  • Maintain continuous awareness of new developments and emerging patterns in pharmacy practice.
  • Maintain records, document patient data, prepare written reports, and provide oral reports concerning patient care.
  • Coordinate pharmacy services relating to research, participate in sponsor site qualification visits, and support IRB-approved clinical trials.
  • Serve as liaison between the study team, protocol sponsor, and nursing to coordinate drug therapy and participate in regulatory audits.
