About this role
Provides the full range of distributive, clinical, consultative, research, investigational, and administrative pharmaceutical services. Incumbents select, compound, manufacture, purchase, dispense, and preserve drugs, medicines, and other therapeutic agents while serving on treatment or diagnostic teams.
Applies knowledge of solubility behavior, drug stability, and incompatibilities to evaluate dosages and prevent undesirable chemical reactions. Maintains continuous awareness of new developments and emerging patterns in the fast-moving drug field.
Coordinates pharmacy services for research at SHC and supports IRB-approved clinical trials. Serves as liaison between study teams, sponsors, and nursing while participating in sponsor site visits and regulatory audits.
Contributes to accredited teaching programs and maintains records that document patient data and provide oral and written reports on patient care. Specifies proper storage and preservation of therapeutic agents according to U.S.P. and N.F. standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.
- One (1) year of experience if completed a PGY1 residency.
- Ability to apply judgment and make informed decisions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus.
- Ability to precept students and residents.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of solubility behavior, drug stability, and incompatibilities when evaluating dosages and preventing undesirable reactions.
- Interpret prescriptions and dispense products while calling attention to synergistic, antagonistic, cumulative effects, overdoses, or incompatibilities.
- Identify fine differences between drugs as they relate to therapeutic efficacy of the products.
- Maintain continuous awareness of new developments and emerging patterns in pharmacy practice.
- Maintain records, document patient data, prepare written reports, and provide oral reports concerning patient care.
- Coordinate and maintain pharmacy services relating to research, including sponsor site qualification and initiation visits.
- Support practices for pharmacy dispensing based on IRB-approved clinical trials and guide investigational drug service technicians.
- Serve as liaison between study teams, protocol sponsors, and nursing to coordinate drug therapy and participate in regulatory audits.
