Under minimal supervision, functions in all sections of the Pharmacy, preparing drugs for distribution and providing clinical services.

Reviews all medication orders verifying completeness and appropriateness of drug therapy, obtaining clarification as necessary. Monitors patient’s total drug therapy for interactions, allergies, incompatibilities, and makes recommendations to physicians. Documents interventions in patient records and pharmacy profiles, reporting via productivity programs.

Enters medication data into the pharmacy processing system for timely distribution and provides drug information on new drugs, warnings, and contraindications to physicians and staff. Monitors and directs work activities of certified and non-certified Pharmacy Technicians, approving all drug handling before dispensing. Maintains security of controlled substances with perpetual inventory.

Participates in pharmacokinetic dosing service, inservice education programs, and medication counseling for inpatients and outpatients. Requirements

  • Registered Pharmacist license
  • Ability to review medication orders and obtain clarifications
  • Knowledge of patient drug therapy monitoring for interactions and allergies
  • Proficiency in pharmacy data processing systems
  • Experience providing clinical pharmacy services and drug information
  • Skills in compounding pharmaceuticals and preparing sterile parenteral medications
  • Familiarity with controlled substances security and inventory
  • Ability to counsel patients on medications

Responsibilities

  • Review all medication orders verifying completeness and appropriateness of drug therapy
  • Monitor patient’s total drug therapy checking for drug interactions, allergies, incompatibilities
  • Document all medication clarification/interventions in patient’s medical record and pharmacy profile
  • Enter medication data into the pharmacy data processing system
  • Provide drug information to physicians and hospital staff on new drugs and warnings
  • Participate in the Pharmacy’s pharmacokinetic dosing service
  • Provide Pharmacy services to operating room, PACU, and same day surgery unit
  • Monitor and direct work activities of Pharmacy Technicians
