The Registered Pharmacist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adhering to the Code of Ethics and compliance standards. Under minimal supervision, functions in all sections of the Pharmacy, preparing drugs for distribution. Provides drug information, clinical pharmacy services, maintains drug control, and directs Pharmacy Technicians.

Critical Care focused on ED/ICU, reviews all medication orders for completeness and appropriateness of therapy. Monitors patient’s total drug therapy for interactions, allergies, incompatibilities, making recommendations to physicians. Documents clarifications and interventions in the patient’s medical record and pharmacy profile.

Participates in pharmacokinetic dosing service and provides services to operating room, PACU, and same day surgery. Conducts inpatient and outpatient medication counseling and inservice education programs. Compounds pharmaceuticals and prepares sterile parenteral medications using standard formulas.

Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Pharmacist
  • Ability to review and clarify medication orders
  • Knowledge of patient-specific drug therapy including age-related needs
  • Proficiency in pharmacy data processing systems
  • Experience monitoring controlled substances and maintaining perpetual inventory
  • Skills in compounding pharmaceuticals and preparing sterile parenteral medications
  • Ability to direct and monitor work of Pharmacy Technicians

Responsibilities

  • Reviews all medication orders verifying the completeness and appropriateness of drug therapy
  • Monitors patient’s total drug therapy checking for drug interactions, allergies, incompatibilities and appropriateness
  • Documents all medication clarification/interventions in the patient’s medical record and/or pharmacy profile
  • Enters medication data into the pharmacy data processing system assuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Provides information to physicians and staff on new drugs, warnings, incompatibilities, and contraindications
  • Participates in the Pharmacy’s pharmacokinetic dosing service
  • Provides Pharmacy services to the operating room, PACU, and same day surgery unit
  • Conducts inpatient and outpatient medication counseling and education
