About this role

The Lead Retail Pharmacist accepts responsibility and accountability for the accurate control and appropriate dispensing of all prescription and non-prescription medications, as required by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy. Ensures appropriate counseling of patients regarding their medications. Supervises the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy.

Leads colleagues in standards of quality of care, inventory control, and intra and interdepartmental communications. Assists with selecting, developing, and maintaining a team of competent staff. Holds self and team accountable for achieving the highest level of quality of care, customer service, and employee satisfaction.

Adheres to the principles of caring and expected behaviors outlined in MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center's Model of Caring and Trinity Health's Code of Conduct. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, and Standards of Conduct. Prepares medications and pharmaceutical supplies timely, accurately, and appropriately using accepted procedures.

Manages schedule for pharmacists, technicians, and support personnel at site of responsibility. Manages timecards and approves payroll for pharmacy staff. Performs duties with flexibility, adapting to changing schedules and customer needs while prioritizing workload.

Counsels patients receiving prescription medications, non-prescription medications, devices, and supplies while protecting their health and drug information. Provides information to medical staff concerning clinical pharmaceutical information pertaining to patient care. Driven to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations
  • Adherence to Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies
  • Ability to prepare medications and pharmaceutical supplies timely, accurately, and appropriately
  • Flexibility in performing duties and adapting to changing schedules and customer needs
  • Proficiency in prioritizing workload
  • Skills in patient counseling on prescription medications, non-prescription items, devices, and supplies
  • Ability to protect patient health and drug information confidentiality
