About this role

A pharmacist-pharmacy resident complies with state and federal laws from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and FDA. They maintain records for controlled substances, remove outdated or damaged drugs from inventory, supervise support personnel, keep current registration, and stay updated on practices and laws. This PGY-1 role lasts one year per ASHP standards in the pharmacy department.

Provides pharmacological information by answering healthcare professionals' requests, monitoring drug therapy, and advising interventions. Completes operational requirements by organizing technicians' workflow, verifying preparation, labeling, order entries, charges, and inspections. Ensures accuracy of entered orders and timely medication delivery to recipients.

Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with hospital policies and procedures. Works on rotating shifts with Antimicrobial Stewardship, Medication Reconciliation, and completes consults as requested. Performs tasks designated by pharmacist preceptor in each residency rotation.

The resident furthers pharmacy practice and leadership skills as a department member. Supervises work results of support personnel throughout rotations. Builds expertise aligned with health-system pharmacy standards.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required
  • State of Texas License as a Registered Pharmacist within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift up to 35 lbs, see, speak, and hear
  • Compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations
  • Current registration maintenance
  • Knowledge of current standard practices and laws

Responsibilities

  • Provide pharmacological information by answering requests of healthcare professionals and monitoring drug therapy
  • Complete pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ workflow
  • Verify technicians’ preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, order entries, charges, and inspections
  • Ensure accuracy of entered orders and timely delivery of medications to recipients
