About this role
VCU Health is hiring certified pharmacy technicians to join the team at the upcoming Chesterfield Pavilion, a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgery center and medical office building opening in April 2027. This new facility will bring comprehensive, patient-centered outpatient care including pharmacy services closer to residents in one of Virginia's fastest-growing communities.
As a Certified Pharmacy Technician II, you will aid pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. Working under minimal supervision, you will perform duties at a high level of proficiency, demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include compounding various medication formulations, repackaging bulk medications into unit-dosed forms, and acclimating to additional pharmacy-related technologies that support packaging and compounding. You will also maintain medications and supplies used for compounding and provide staffing support across multiple pharmacy service shifts and sites.

Requirements
- Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or valid ExCPT certification by the National Health Career Association
- Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy
- Clean criminal record with no felony conviction, no drug or pharmacy related convictions, and no denial or revocation of pharmacy registration or licensure
- One year of previous pharmacy practice experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrated competency in CPhT I responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for all patient age groups including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
- Compound various medication formulations according to USP requirements for non-sterile, sterile, and hazardous preparations
- Repackage bulk medications into unit-dosed form, including patient-specific doses
- Maintain medications and supplies used for compounding purposes
- Acclimate to additional pharmacy-related technologies supporting the packaging and compounding of medications
- Provide staffing support among multiple pharmacy service shifts and sites
- Train other team members or students with regard to CPhT II shifts and skills
- Demonstrate competency in CPhT I responsibilities and take on increased responsibilities of medication coordination
