About this role

This trainee position learns the technical functions of clinical pharmacy services, including maintaining stock levels, compounding, filling, pricing, and delivering pharmaceuticals. The incumbent performs all duties under direct supervision of a Pharmacist, as part of a patient-focused organization.

Daily responsibilities include entering prescriptions, completing reports, operating automated dispensing devices, and inputting computer data. The trainee also provides customer service and performs first-line screening for medication order errors and drug or allergy contraindications.

Requirements

  • Current Pharmacy Technician Training license with the State of Utah.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform mathematical calculations for compounding and dose preparation.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and handle heavy or bulky supply containers (up to 20 pounds).
  • May determine options from pre-established policies but cannot act outside unless authorized by a Pharmacist.
  • Major problems encountered include first-line screening for errors and processing non-formulary requests.

Responsibilities

  • Trains to assist the pharmacist in tasks associated with patient care.
  • Learns to effectively manage supplies of the Pharmacy Department.
  • Enters prescriptions, completes reports, and inputs computer data.
  • Operates and maintains automated dispensing devices.
  • Provides all aspects of customer service required for Pharmacy Department services.
  • Performs first-line screening for medication order errors, drug or allergy contraindications.
  • Processes non-formulary drug requests.
  • Performs mathematical calculations for extemporaneous compounding and special dose preparation.
