About this role

As a Pharmacy Technician I at Oregon Health & Science University, you will provide technical support to pharmacists through preparation of unit doses, data entry, delivery of medications, IV products, and cartfill exchange. This position works under direct supervision of a Pharmacist responsible for safe drug distribution to patients ranging from neonates to elderly.

Your daily tasks include computer order entry, filling unit dose orders, selecting medications from inventory, and loading ADM stations. You will also perform unit dose functions like repackaging medications, processing narcotics, and returning medications to stock, as well as rounding to nursing locations to deliver items and remove excess dosage units.

You will work under the supervision of diverse pharmacists in a hospital setting with possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and noise. The role requires standing or walking for 6-8 continuous hours, pushing delivery carts, and manipulating small objects like syringes and ampules.

This position emphasizes accountability for accuracy and flexibility in scheduling. You will develop skills in pharmaceutical mathematics, aseptic technique, and medical terminology, building a foundation for advancement in pharmacy services. The role also involves maintaining Pyxis movement and stock to accommodate patient needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License, including completion and maintenance of job-specific competencies and certifications.
  • Computer keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to read and understand medical-related terms.
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations.
  • Skill at manipulating small objects such as needles, syringes, and ampules.
  • Knowledge of and skill at application of aseptic technique.
  • Ability to establish priorities in workflow and work under supervision of diverse pharmacists.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists through computer order entry of inpatient and outpatient orders.
  • Fill unit dose medication orders and select medications from inventory to provide 24-hour medication supply.
  • Load and refill medications into ADM stations.
  • Perform unit dose functions including repackaging medications, processing narcotics, and returning medications to stock.
  • Round to nursing locations to deliver items and remove excess or discontinued dosage units.
  • Prioritize labels from new orders to ensure product delivery at least one hour prior to label due time.
  • Organize and restock work areas, remove expired medication, and record refrigerator temperature daily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
