About this role

Reporting to the Drug Distribution Manager and under the direction of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Assistant handles procurement, storage, manufacturing, compounding, dispensing, and distribution of pharmaceuticals. This role ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures.

Day-to-day duties involve operating automated dispensing cabinets, using pharmacy computer systems, and performing pharmaceutical calculations. The assistant also manages inventory, records, and pricing, and packages and labels medications with high attention to fine motor detail.

This position is based at Seven Oaks General Hospital within the WRHA Corporate network. The team includes pharmacy assistants and technicians, and the work is performed in person during days, evenings, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Complete Grade 12 education, Manitoba Standards (required).
  • Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program or equivalent (required).
  • Pharmacy Technician Certificate from a recognized Pharmacy Assistant Program.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (essential).
  • Demonstrated competency in pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills including fluency in English.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Procure, store, and manage inventory of pharmaceuticals.
  • Manufacture, compound, dispense, package, and label medications.
  • Record and price prescriptions and issue pharmaceuticals.
  • Operate automated dispensing cabinets for distribution.
  • Utilize pharmacy computer systems for data entry and tracking.
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
