About this role

As a Retail Pharmacy Tech at MercyOne, you will assist in the technical functions of the practice of pharmacy, enabling the pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to patients. MercyOne Dubuque is the leading hospital in the tri-states, offering comprehensive cardiology, a level II regional NICU, and a newly constructed cancer center.

In this role, you will greet and assist patients in person and on the phone in a professional and confidential manner. You will operate the cash register accurately, handle inventory control duties including ordering, receiving, and checking for outdated drugs, and process prescriptions using pharmacy dispensing software.

Requirements

  • Active certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to operate cash register and handle various payment methods
  • Experience with pharmacy dispensing software and third-party payment processing
  • Strong attention to detail when collecting patient data and labeling prescriptions
  • Knowledge of pharmacy inventory control procedures including checking for outdated drugs
  • Willingness to perform nonsterile compounding after appropriate training

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients/customers in person and on the phone in a professional and confidential manner
  • Operate the cash register accurately, including cash, credit card, and in-store charges
  • Assist with inventory control: ordering, receiving, stocking, returning, and checking for outdated drugs
  • Utilize pharmacy dispensing software to input patient and third-party information and process prescriptions
  • Contact prescribers to obtain prescription refill authorization and accept new prescription orders after training
  • Collect accurate patient demographic, allergy, and medication data from patients and caregivers
  • Perform drug compounding processes for nonsterile compounding as provided by Iowa Pharmacy Law after appropriate training
  • Package and label prescriptions for final verification by the pharmacist in an organized and highly accurate manner
