Under general supervision, interpret and evaluate physicians’ prescriptions to provide prescribed medications for optimal patient care. Oversee pharmacy support personnel and work with insurance companies to resolve reimbursement issues.

Provide ambulatory-related pharmaceutical care by assessing patient-specific data, managing prescriptions, preparing medications, and counseling patients and families. Detect and resolve drug-related problems while promoting safe use of medications including OTCs and herbals. Conduct bi-annual inventory of stock and order pharmaceuticals as needed.

Manage the pharmacy and direct support staff in the absence of the supervisor, adhering to departmental policies and state, federal laws. Enhance customer relations through respectful interactions with patients, families, medical and nursing staff. Assess pharmacy performance and maintain medication distribution systems.

Provide educational services including training to pharmacists, students, residents, technicians, nurses, and physicians. Engage in practice enhancements and professional development in pharmaceutical care services. Deliver timely drug information using medical and pharmaceutical references.

Requirements

  • Ability to interpret and evaluate physicians’ prescriptions according to professional standards
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws, policies, and pharmacy practices
  • Skills in assessing patient-specific data to evaluate medication needs
  • Proficiency in prescription management, order entry, medication preparation, and dispensing
  • Competence in patient/family medication counseling and resolving drug-related problems
  • Experience working with insurance companies and third party payers on reimbursement
  • Ability to oversee pharmacy support personnel and conduct inventory
