About this role
The Retail Pharmacist accepts responsibility and accountability for the accurate control and appropriate dispensing of all prescription and non-prescription medications. Ensures appropriate counseling of patients regarding their medications. Patients served range in age from newborns to geriatrics, including families, caregivers, and other health care providers.
Accepts responsibility for the timely and accurate preparation of medications and pharmaceutical supplies using accepted procedures to fulfill prescription orders issued by physicians and other qualified providers. Communicates effectively with colleagues and customers alike, being a good listener and adjusting style as needed. Performs duties with flexibility, adapting to changing schedules and needs of customers while prioritizing workload accordingly.
Reports to the Lead Pharmacist or in their absence, the Retail Pharmacy Supervisor, and is responsible for supervision of pharmacy technicians and other support personnel. Represents MercyOne Pharmacies in a courteous, friendly, and caring manner. Adheres to principles of caring outlined in MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center's Model of Caring and Trinity Health's Code of Conduct.
Monitors patient medication therapy for pharmaceutical care parameters and documents appropriate findings, recommendations, interventions, and outcomes. Provides information to medical staff concerning all aspects of clinical pharmaceutical information pertaining to patient care while maintaining confidentiality. Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to pharmaceutical services and shares in on-call and weekend rotation responsibilities.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations
- Adherence to Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program and Standards of Conduct
- Ability to counsel patients while protecting their health and drug information confidentiality
- Proficiency in monitoring patient medication therapy and documenting interventions
- Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and prioritize workload
- Commitment to positive behaviors, attitude, and interpersonal service toward patients and co-workers
- Supervisory skills for pharmacy technicians and support personnel
