OU Health

US · Full-time · $115,000 – $135,000

About this role

Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the retail staff pharmacist is responsible and accountable for proper compounding, dispensing, reviewing and verifying of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines. This includes ordering and receiving pharmaceutical supplies, preparing and dispensing pharmaceuticals, and preparing billing statements. The role ensures compliance with all applicable state, federal, and local laws.

Daily tasks involve filling prescriptions by compounding and dispensing medications following prescriptions issued by physicians, dentists, or other authorized practitioners. Pharmacists weigh, measure, and mix drugs to fill bottles or capsules with the correct quantity and composition. They ensure patients understand prescribed instructions and advise on proper storage for prescription medications.

In the NIC Retail Pharmacy department, pharmacists store and preserve biologicals, vaccines, serums, and drugs subject to deterioration using refrigeration and other methods. They order and maintain supplies of drugs and pharmaceuticals while instructing interns and overseeing pharmacy technicians. In the absence of the Pharmacist-in-Charge, staff pharmacists assume those duties and supervise operations.

Pharmacists maintain records on all prescriptions filled and compute charges for billing purposes. They provide information to physicians and staff on availability of new drugs, warnings on marketed drugs, and drug incompatibilities. New to OU Health candidates can inquire about sign-on bonuses and relocation assistance.
