The Ambulatory Pharmacist interprets physicians' prescriptions, compounds and dispenses medications within regulatory guidelines. Supervises clinical activities of pharmacy technicians and handles complex problem resolution. This compliance critical role ensures proper adherence to all requirements.
Day-to-day involves evaluating, preparing and dispensing medications, verifying prescriptions per standards and laws. Perform medication reconciliation for seamless patient care upon discharge. Consult patients on appropriate use, dosage, frequency and potential drug interactions.
Interact closely with patients to answer questions on medication therapy and review plans of care. Supervise pharmacy technicians on hiring, training, performance and compliance. Assist in fiscal management, claims adjudication and quality assurance processes.
Participate in achieving business goals, marketing events and operational improvements. Provide technical guidance, respond to escalated patient issues and offer consultations on therapeutic matters. Contribute recommendations to enhance procedures and patient care.
Requirements
- Licensed pharmacist able to interpret physicians' prescriptions and compound/dispense medications
- Knowledge of state and federal regulatory guidelines for pharmacy operations
- Ability to supervise clinical activities of pharmacy technicians
- Experience handling complex patient problem resolution and drug interaction counseling
- Familiarity with medication reconciliation and therapeutic plan review
- Skills in prescription claims adjudication and pricing structures
- Proficiency in quality assurance, controlled substances security and record keeping
- Competence in providing consultations on pharmacy and therapeutic matters
Responsibilities
- Evaluate, prepare and dispense medications; verify prescribed medications according to professional standards, facility procedures, and state and federal legal requirements
- Perform medication reconciliation processes to extend a seamless continuum of care for patients upon discharge
- Consult with patients regarding individual medications or supplies prescribed, including dosage, frequency, specialized requirements and possible drug interactions
- Review and evaluate patient's plan of care for therapeutic appropriateness
- Supervise and manage functions for pharmacy technicians such as hiring, training, terminating, and performance management
- Monitor performance of pharmacy staff to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational policies
- Submit, review and handle adjudicated prescription claims to ensure appropriate reimbursement
- Perform prescription verification and provide technical guidance to pharmacy technicians
