About this role
In this role at Beth Israel Lahey Health, you will support the department's mission by ensuring the right patients receive the right medication in a safe and timely manner. You will clinically review medication orders from prescribers to verify each order is safe to administer to the patient.
Day-to-day responsibilities include intervening with prescribers on behalf of patients when orders are not appropriate and entering reviewed orders into the Pharmacy Information System. You will also supervise pharmacy technicians and interns to ensure the daily needs of patients are met, educating them on safe medication practices.
This position serves as a liaison between the pharmacy department and healthcare providers, providing drug information to medical staff and patients upon request. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of drug distribution, including controlled substances and investigational drugs.
As a Clinical Pharmacist II, you will perform in a leadership capacity by taking on added responsibility for an area, function, or specialty. You will also actively participate in continuous performance improvement activities, providing suggestions to improve day-to-day operations.
Requirements
- Demonstrated competency in all practice areas in which pharmacist duties are performed
- Completion of all required departmental competency requirements
- Ability to understand and utilize all pharmacy technology to accomplish duties
- Active participation in and successful completion of continuous performance improvement activities
- Commitment to maintaining courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients
- Adherence to customer service standards and a commitment toward meeting the needs of patients and staff

Responsibilities
- Clinically review all medication orders to ensure safe administration, including assessment of drug selection, allergies, dose, route, diagnosis, lab results, and potential interactions
- Intervene with appropriate healthcare professionals when necessary and document clinical interventions consistent with departmental policy
- Enter reviewed orders into the Pharmacy Information System with attention to how medications will be administered by nursing staff
- Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns, educating them on safe medication practices to meet daily patient needs
- Provide drug information to medical staff and patients upon request, documenting requests in the intervention database
- Manage day-to-day drug distribution tasks, including controlled substances, IV medications, and investigational drugs
- Serve as a liaison between the pharmacy department and healthcare providers
- Consistently perform in a leadership role by taking responsibility for an area, function, or specialty, serving as a role model to other staff
