Opportunity of a lifetime practicing within an oncology office. The pharmacist provides oversight of dispensing oral oncology and supportive medications at the onsite pharmacy. This setting establishes patient-pharmacist relationships and enables provider collaboration, utilizing counseling skills and patient assistance knowledge.
The Pharmacist Specialist ensures safe, effective, and prompt specialty medication therapies, including daily dispensing and medication therapy management. Monitors, screens, and verifies specialty medication and chemotherapy treatment plans for accurate dose, indication, and schedule. Assesses, implements, and evaluates pharmaceutical care to prevent drug-related problems and improve patient outcomes.
Collaborates with providers, pharmacy, and nursing staff to ensure timely medication access and oversee pharmacy technicians. Handles inventory management, staff development, and compliance with accreditation standards, state, and federal regulations. Coordinates copay requests, prior authorizations, and resolves payment obstacles within the electronic medical record.
Assists with program development, data governance, and transmission to external databases for accreditation. Triages referrals to specialty pharmacies and evaluates products for quality and cost-effectiveness, including 340B program compliance. Monday-Friday schedule, closed on major holidays, with no drive-thru, storefront, or vaccines.
Requirements
- Licensed pharmacist with oversight experience in specialty pharmacy
- Knowledge of oral oncology and supportive medications
- Proficiency in monitoring chemotherapy treatment plans and drug-related problem resolution
- Skills in patient counseling and medication therapy management
- Experience with copay assistance, prior authorizations, and patient advocacy
- Familiarity with inventory control, 340B program, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to collaborate with providers, nursing, and pharmacy staff
- Competence in electronic medical records and data analytics for quality measures
Responsibilities
- Assess, implement, and evaluate pharmaceutical care contributing to patient physiological and psychosocial outcomes
- Monitor, screen, and verify specialty medication and chemotherapy treatment plans for accuracy
- Provide drug information, patient education on pharmaceutical care and disease state management
- Coordinate copay requests, patient assistance, prior authorizations, and billing inquiries
- Assist with program development, data governance, and accreditation submissions
- Handle all aspects of pharmaceutical care including supervision of pharmacy technicians
- Triage and approve referrals to specialty pharmacies ensuring warm hand-offs
- Evaluate products and care plans for quality and cost-effectiveness, manage inventory and 340B compliance
