About this role

This part-time retail pharmacist role at Atrium Health Pharmacy Pavilion oversees pharmaceutical care, including retrieving biomedical literature and designing medication therapy regimens. Provides effective patient education and counseling on medication therapy, adverse effects, compliance, and administration. Ensures safe medication handling in a retail setting with 24 hours per week.

Daily responsibilities include reviewing and interpreting medication orders, preparing and dispensing medications per best practices and regulations. Participates in medical emergencies and supports medication safety initiatives by reporting events. Performs quality assurance on the medication use system.

Collaborates with the healthcare team to manage formulary adherence and acquire non-formulary medications. Directs pharmacy support team members for accurate workflows and compliance. Practices in accordance with organization policies, local, state, and federal regulations.

Serves as preceptor for pharmacy students and residents, mentoring teammates and assisting with performance evaluations. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific patient needs across the life span. Actively contributes to department quality improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Licensed in the state(s) of practice or eligible for reciprocity
  • Immunization and non-vaccine injectable certification required
  • Credentialing and privileging required based on area of practice
  • Knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served, including growth and development principles over the life span
  • No experience required; 1 year of retail pharmacy experience preferred
  • Immunization certified
  • Ability to assess patient status and interpret age-specific needs per department policies

Responsibilities

  • Oversees pharmaceutical care, including retrieving and evaluating biomedical literature and designing medication therapy regimens
  • Uses effective patient education techniques to provide counseling to patients and caregivers on medication therapy, adverse effects, compliance, appropriate use, handling, and administration
  • Designs, recommends, monitors, and evaluates patient-specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens based on biomedical literature
  • Reviews and accurately interprets medication orders and prescriptions
  • Participates in the management of medical emergencies when applicable
  • Actively supports department medication safety and quality improvement activities, including reporting events
  • Prepares, dispenses, and oversees proper storage and handling of medications in accordance with best practices and regulations
  • Directs and checks the accuracy of the work of pharmacy support team members to ensure safe workflows and compliance
