About this role

The Certified Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in assuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients at Mount Carmel East Inpatient Pharmacy. All technician responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Core functions include unit dose dispensing, sterile compounding, non-sterile compounding, medication packaging, inventory control, record keeping and billing.

Technicians prepare sterile products including chemotherapy using aseptic technique in compliance with regulatory standards. They also prepare non-sterile products including hazardous medications and repackage bulk oral medications using Parata Systems and Medical Packaging Inc robots. Additional duties involve facilitating medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets and assisting with orders through the pharmacy inventory system.

The role supports inventory control by processing daily Pharmacy Department orders while assuring proper stock rotation, storage and expiration dating. Technicians escalate medication and non-medication orders to the Purchasing Team and assist with proper billing of patients and other units. Mount Carmel offers an elevated compensation program for all sterile compounding trained technicians following standardized training.

Technicians build a working identity with the Pharmacy Team while developing their pharmacy knowledge to the extent of their Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification. The position provides opportunities to advance skills in sterile and non-sterile compounding within a structured inpatient pharmacy environment.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Active registration as a Certified Tech with Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
  • Previous pharmacy technician experience preferred
  • Aptitude in mathematical manipulations including ratios, proportions, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions
  • Desire to career build with ambition to elevate working pharmacy knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Prepare sterile products including chemotherapy using aseptic technique in compliance with regulatory standards

  • Repackage bulk oral medications using Parata Systems and Medical Packaging Inc robots
  • Facilitate medication dispensing via Automated Dispensing Cabinets on patient care units
  • Assist in dispensing orders and prescriptions through the pharmacy inventory system
  • Process daily Pharmacy Department orders while assuring proper stock rotation, storage and expiration dating
  • Assist the department with proper billing of patients and other units
