About this role
As a Retail Pharmacist Float at Advocate Aurora Health, oversee pharmaceutical care, including retrieving and evaluating biomedical literature and designing medication therapy regimens. Use effective patient education techniques to counsel patients and caregivers on medication therapy, adverse effects, compliance, appropriate use, handling, and administration. Review and accurately interpret medication orders and prescriptions to ensure safe dispensing.
Design, recommend, monitor, and evaluate patient-specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens based on relevant biomedical literature, implementing recommendations effectively while documenting in the appropriate format. Participate in managing medical emergencies when applicable and actively support department medication safety and quality improvement activities, including event reporting. Perform quality assurance and performance improvement of the medication use system as appropriate.
Collaborate with the healthcare team to manage formulary adherence and the medication-use process, assisting in acquiring non-formulary, compassionate use, and investigational medications. Practice in compliance with organization policies, procedures, local, state, and federal regulations. Prepare, dispense, and oversee proper storage and handling of medications per best practices and regulations.
Direct and check the accuracy of pharmacy support team members' work to ensure safe, efficient workflows, service standards, and regulatory compliance. Serve as preceptor for pharmacy students, residents, and healthcare learners, while mentoring, orienting, training, and assisting with performance evaluations of teammates. Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific patient needs across the life span to provide appropriate care.
Requirements
- Licensed in the state(s) of practice or eligible for reciprocity
- Immunization and non-vaccine injectable certification required based on area of practice
- Credentialing and privileging required based on area of practice
- Maintains skills in area of practice
- Strong computer skills
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
- Knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span
- Ability to assess data reflective of patient's status and interpret appropriate information for age-specific needs
