About this role

This position coordinates all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs in OSUMC outpatient and retail areas. Duties include medication order approval and distribution, plus assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency and duration of therapy. Patient population spans pediatric, adult and geriatric patients.

Review patient medication profiles for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions and appropriate regimens. Provide patient counseling and disease state management. Coordinate patients' pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to patient ages, including medication dosing relative to disease process. Communicate effectively with patients, other health care professionals, and insurance companies. Serve diverse patient groups from pediatric to geriatric.

Supervise technicians and teach undergraduate and graduate students. Deliver educational programs for hospital and clinic staff including physicians, nurses and pharmacy staff. Maintain ongoing competency and licensure as a retail specialty pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Ohio
  • 1-3 years’ experience in retail or health system outpatient pharmacy preferred
  • Knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to pediatric, adult and geriatric patients
  • Ability to identify medication dosing and pharmaceutical needs relative to disease process and age
  • Effective communication with patients, health care professionals, and insurance companies
  • Perform professional, supervisory, and teaching functions
  • Meet competency and licensure expectations of a retail specialty pharmacist
