About this role

Northeast Georgia Health System is rooted in a foundation of improving the health of our communities. Under the direct supervision of a Staff Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician processes and fills physician orders. Employees care for patients in all age ranges following population-specific guidelines and regulatory policies.

Serves as a liaison between pharmacy and nursing to ensure medication reaches the patient in the required time frame. Performs medication-related duties on the nursing unit to meet needs of the unit, pharmacy, and regulatory agencies. With a valid intern license, may perform duties of a pharmacy intern as allowed by the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy.

Utilizes Robot software to evaluate medication processing and prints manual pick lists with each batch. Stocks robot with medications and supplies to maintain efficient workflow and packages medications for automated dispensing machines. Maintains and monitors Pacmed production during batches.

Performs quality assurance methods to ensure medications are prepared, packaged, and stored under pharmacy department and regulatory guidelines. Checks Robot area for expired medications and stores them for credit or destruction. Follows department policies to minimize and detect medication discrepancies.

Requirements

  • Current registration with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy
  • First attempt of certification exam within six months of hire; certification obtained by third attempt or 12 months
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to perform entry-level pharmacy technician functions efficiently and proficiently
  • Basic math aptitude, ability to measure accurately, interpret instructions
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to organize workload, interpret priorities, attention to detail
  • Ability to follow compounding practices, USP 797 procedures, and instructions from pharmacists
