About this role

Responsible for checking prepared medications, overseeing dispensing of prescriptions from the pharmacy, and completing clinical patient review for safety and accuracy. Provides safe, efficient, high quality, patient-centered, and evidence-based medication services to all patients. In cooperation with other pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, acts as a resource for drug information questions.

This position coordinates all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs in OSUMC outpatient and retail areas. Duties include medication order approval and distribution, assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency and duration of therapy. Conducts patient medication profile review for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions, and appropriate regimens.

Screens for drug-drug, drug-herb/dietary supplement, drug-allergy, drug-food, drug-disease state, and drug-laboratory interactions. Submits insurance claims and communicates with insurance companies as necessary. Participates in appropriate hospital and/or departmental committees relevant to practice area.

Provides patient counseling, disease state management, and coordination of pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses. Supervises technicians, teaches undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students, and delivers educational programs for hospital and clinic staff including physicians, nurses, and pharmacy personnel.

Requirements

  • Valid and unrestricted registered pharmacist license in the State of Ohio
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Ohio
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Ability to demonstrate medication dosing and identify pharmaceutical needs relative to disease process and age
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, other health care professionals, and insurance companies
