This position provides technical support to pharmacists through preparation of unit doses, data entry, delivery of medications, and cart fill exchange. The role ensures accountability and accuracy of standard operations procedures. It supports safe drug distribution for inpatients and outpatients ranging from neonates to elderly over 65.

Daily tasks include computer order entry for inpatient and outpatient orders, filling unit dose medications, and selecting ordered medications from inventory. Technicians prioritize labels to deliver products one hour prior to due time and organize work areas by restocking and removing expired medications. They also round to nursing locations to deliver items and return excess or discontinued dosages.

Work occurs under direct supervision of a Pharmacist responsible for diverse patient ages. The environment involves loading automated dispensing cabinets, tubing medications to hospital areas, and processing narcotics. Technicians maintain barcode integrity and record refrigerator temperatures daily.

Additional duties encompass repackaging for unit dose dispensing, maintaining emergency trays, performing credits, and ensuring compliance via manufacturing logs. Flexibility supports operational needs in a hospital pharmacy setting serving broad patient demographics. The role builds skills in aseptic techniques and pharmaceutical calculations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License with job-specific competencies
  • Completion of training competencies
  • Ability to read and understand medical-related terms
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations
  • Skill at manipulating small objects such as needles, syringes, ampules
  • Knowledge of and skill at application of aseptic technique
  • Ability to establish priorities in workflow

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists with computer order entry of inpatient and outpatient orders
  • Fill unit dose medication orders and select ordered medications from inventory
  • Load and refill medications into automated dispensing cabinet stations
  • Prioritize labels from new orders to assure delivery one hour prior to due time
