This position is a great opportunity that leads to a career as a pharmacy technician. It is an apprenticeship program that provides on-the-job training and covers the costs of the technician-trainee license, national board exam, and pharmacy technician license upon completion.

Pharmacy Technician Trainees assist the Pharmacist in pharmacy operations and provide customer service while complying with federal and state laws. They fill prescriptions accurately, retrieve products, label containers, and respond to customer, physician, and vendor inquiries.

The work environment involves exposure to cleaning and compounding chemicals and bloodborne pathogens. Trainees must maintain state and federal record keeping for controlled substances and assist with monthly CII audits while adhering to dress code standards.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid Pharmacy Technician Trainee license in Utah.
  • Complete required training programs (e.g., HIPAA, FWA).
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to accurately count and measure medications.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy computer systems for patient record retrieval and prescription processing.
  • Ability to handle exposure to cleaning and compounding chemicals and bloodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Fill prescriptions accurately, including retrieving products and labeling containers.
  • Respond to customer, physician, and vendor inquiries, deferring to the pharmacist as needed.
  • Assist with monthly CII audits and maintain records for controlled substances.
  • Understand billing and dispensing procedures under CMS DMEPOS guidelines.
  • Stock inventory and manage product orders.
  • Accept written prescription or refill information, confirm completeness of patient record, and retrieve pharmacy records.
  • Process customer transactions accurately and handle various payment methods.
