About this role
The Lead Certified Pharmacy Technician - Home Infusion supports the preparation, compounding, and dispensing of sterile medications for patients receiving infusion therapy in the home setting. This role ensures the highest standards of accuracy, sterility, and patient safety while operating in a fast-paced environment that requires exceptional multitasking, organization, and attention to detail.
The technician maintains a clean, organized, and safe patient and work environment. This includes monitoring room temperature and pressure for compliance in accordance with USP Chapters <797> and <800>, along with knowledge of different medication classes and special handling requirements according to policies and standard operating procedures.
The Lead Certified Pharmacy Technician provides support for the interview process, evaluation process, establishing schedules, and adjusting assignments. The role oversees technician training and development, reviews operational policies, and assists with monitoring regulatory compliance including quality assurance, USP 797/800, and Ohio State Board of Pharmacy rules.
The position works collaboratively with pharmacists and the healthcare team to ensure timely and compliant delivery of infusion therapies. It requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in accordance with Policies, Standard Operation Procedures, and State Laws.
Requirements
- High School or GED required
- Approved Pharmacy Technician Certification with active registration as a Certified Tech with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy
- 2 year minimum experience; 3-5 years of experience in hospital pharmacy preferred
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in accordance with Policies, Standard Operation Procedures, and State Laws
- Must be able to work in a stressful and fast paced environment
- Must be physically able to perform strenuous activity such as lifting, pushing, and repetitive movement
- Knowledge of relevant USP Chapters preferred
Responsibilities
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe patient and work environment
- Maintains an understanding of room temperature and pressure monitors for Environment Compliance in accordance with USP Chapters <797> and <800>
- Maintains knowledge of different medication classes and special handling requirements according to policies and standard operating procedures
- Oversees technician training, development, including identification and correction of deficiencies
- Reviews and assists with the establishment of operational policies and standard work instructions
- Assists with monitoring regulatory compliance including quality assurance, safety, USP 797/800, USP 795, joint commission standards, and Ohio State Board of Pharmacy rules
- Utilizes software systems appropriately and demonstrates continuous learning
