About this role
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Clinical Pharmacist for our Inpatient Pharmacy team in Charlottesville, VA. This role is responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt pharmacy services to patients in assigned areas.
Day-to-day, the Clinical Pharmacist manages patient drug therapy in accordance with applicable clinical practice standards, assures the appropriateness of all provider medication orders, and provides comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care. The role also includes serving as the primary resource for drug information and education, providing in-depth patient counseling when required, and precepting pharmacy students as assigned.
This position is part of a collaborative, professional team that values superior customer service, effective communication, and ownership of assigned tasks. The pharmacist will work rotating days and evenings with occasional overnight shifts, every 4th weekend, and holiday rotation, ensuring quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.

Requirements
- Virginia Pharmacist License (Required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
- Bachelors Level Degree in Pharmacy (Required)
- Doctorate Level Degree in Pharmacy (Preferred)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred)
- Previous Clinical Experience (Preferred)
- Oncology Experience (Preferred)
- Residency Trained (Preferred)
Responsibilities
- Manage patient drug therapy in accordance with applicable clinical practice standards
- Assure the appropriateness of all provider medication orders to maintain a high level of patient care and safety
- Serve as the primary resource for drug information and education
- Provide in-depth patient counseling when required
- Precept pharmacy students as assigned
- Participate in the training of new employees as assigned
- Operate pharmacy equipment appropriately and ensure adequate supplies for continuous patient care
- Triage and escalate any questions or issues outside the scope of practice as needed
