Join Cencora (formerly AmerisourceBergen) as a Pharmacy Technician and play an essential role in creating healthier futures. In this onsite position at University Specialty Pharmacy in Knoxville, TN, you will support the delivery of specialty pharmacy services to patients and healthcare providers.
Your day-to-day work involves creating and managing patient profiles in the pharmacy information system, entering prescription plan information for processing and adjudication, and addressing insurance and reimbursement issues. You will also retrieve and prepare medications for pharmacist review, package medications for shipping according to specialty guidelines, and process prescription payment transactions at the register.
You will collaborate closely with pharmacists and other team members to ensure accurate and timely prescription fulfillment. This includes answering inbound calls, triaging them appropriately, and assisting pharmacists with information needed for therapeutic consults with patients.
This role offers the opportunity to grow within a leading pharmaceutical services organization, working Monday through Friday with no weekends or holidays. You will contribute to achieving business goals and metrics for the Specialty Pharmacy while making a direct impact on patient care.
Requirements
- Normally requires a minimum of two (2) years directly related and progressively responsible ambulatory pharmacy experience
- Pharmacy technician certification with a national technical certification organization, such as Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other comparable national certification required
- State pharmacy certification is acceptable if core competencies are equal to or better than national certification requirements
- Employees holding a Trainee license must upgrade to a Technician license before the expiration of their Trainee license
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under time and volume constraints
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical products, services and drug interactions
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Responsibilities
- Create patient profiles in the pharmacy delivery information system
- Enter prescription plan information for processing and adjudicating patient prescriptions
- Address insurance, reimbursement, and payment issues by communicating with insurance providers, patients, and pharmacists
- Retrieve and prepare medications for pharmacist review and verification
- Package medications for shipping according to specific specialty pharmacy guidelines
- Utilize the register to complete prescription payment transactions
- Answer inbound telephone calls and triage calls to the appropriate staff
- Assist pharmacists by providing required information for therapeutic consults with patients
