About this role
This role provides the professional, clinical, and technical knowledge required for comprehensive pharmaceutical care that supports the mission of Sharp HealthCare. As a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Critical Care at Sharp Memorial Hospital, you will deliver expert medication management to critically ill patients.
Day-to-day responsibilities include proactive involvement in clinical advisory services such as Renal Target Monitoring and Antibiotic Surveillance. You will review patient medication profiles for appropriateness, identify and resolve therapeutic issues, and participate in Code-Blue emergencies as needed.
You will work within a collaborative team environment alongside nurses, physicians, and other clinicians to optimize patient outcomes. The position requires consistent follow-through on formulary compliance and timely communication about therapeutic issues or problems.
This role offers the opportunity to apply specialized clinical knowledge in a fast-paced critical care setting. You will contribute to ongoing data collection for Medication Usage Evaluations and help shape best-practice recommendations across the pharmacy department.
Requirements
- California Pharmacist License - CA State Board of Pharmacy - REQUIRED
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association - REQUIRED
- ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association - REQUIRED
- Current license to practice pharmacy in the state of California without restriction or probation
- Completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with experience in critical care or a specialized clinical residency in critical care/emergency care (preferred)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association (preferred)
- BPS Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) - Board of Pharmacy Specialties (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care supporting the mission and values of Pharmacy Services and Sharp HealthCare
- Demonstrate proactive involvement with clinical advisory services including Renal Target Monitoring and Antibiotic Surveillance Team activities
- Review patient medication profiles for appropriateness of drug therapy, therapeutic duplications, allergies, and renal and hepatic function
- Identify, resolve, and document prescribing, formulary, and therapeutic issues through integration of patient variables and clinical status
- Participate in Code-Blue emergencies as required, mixing and labeling medications
- Respond to and document drug information requests promptly and professionally
- Participate in ongoing data collection for Medication Usage Evaluations
- Communicate with nurses and physicians in a timely manner about therapeutic issues or problems
Benefits
- Hourly pay range of $77.91 - $112.59 based on experience and qualifications
- Day shift schedule with variable start and end times
- Full-time position with 8-hour shifts and 40-hour work weeks
- On-call not required
