This Pharmacy Technician II role with Allegheny Health Network provides essential distributive pharmacy services, assistance, and support for registered pharmacists. Day-to-day responsibilities include processing medication orders through computer order entry, medication preparation, and assembling all items for the pharmacist's final check. Technicians also maintain pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established policies, inspect assigned areas, and utilize pharmacy computer systems to ensure operational accuracy.

Depending on the assignment, technicians may work in outpatient, inpatient, or central fill pharmacy environments. Outpatient roles involve validating insurance coverage and handling cash transactions, while inpatient roles focus on compounding IV admixtures and preparing sterile products. Central fill technicians operate material handling equipment like forklifts and order pickers.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT (NHA).
Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or 1 year equivalent experience.
Effective June 28, 2026: upon hire and before start date, registration as Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Pharmacy Technician through the PA State Board of Pharmacy.
1 year of pharmacy experience in respective area (preferred).

Responsibilities

Process medication orders including computer order entry, medication preparation, and assemble all items prior to pharmacist final check.
Maintain pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures, including inspection of assigned areas and use of pharmacy computer systems.
Provide customer service by taking patient prescriptions and documenting all required information, handling all customer interactions courteously and efficiently.
For Outpatient Techs: Validate Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance drug coverage, ensure adjudication is complete, handle cash, and prepare deposits and accounting reports.
For Inpatient Techs: Compound, stock, repackage, and batch from bulk medications; prepare routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals including compounding, preparation, and labeling of IV admixtures.
For Central Fill Pharmacy: Safely operate equipment including forklifts, order pickers, reach trucks, or other material handling equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
