The Pharmacy Assistant position in Halifax supports dispensary operations within an integrated specialty pharmacy environment focused on patient outcomes.

Daily work centers on accurate prescription entry and processing, picking and packaging medications, and following up on insurance billing issues with third-party payers. The role also includes inventory management, fridge temperature monitoring, and administrative tasks to keep operations running smoothly.

Assistants work on-site Monday through Friday alongside pharmacists and cross-train across pharmacy functions as permitted by scope of practice. The environment emphasizes adherence to provincial regulatory requirements and established standard operating procedures at all times.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently under direction from the Pharmacist
  • Knowledge of established standard operating procedures and provincial pharmacy regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity with prescription entry, processing and insurance billing processes
  • Understanding of safe medication storage and temperature monitoring procedures
  • Experience with inventory management and reconciliation
  • Willingness to cross-train in other pharmacy areas as permitted by scope of practice

Responsibilities

  • Process prescriptions accurately for all programs including follow-up on insurance billing issues with third-party payers
  • Label, pick and package prescriptions in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Provide customer service to clinic staff, nurses and physicians by phone and email
  • Manage inventory including ordering, maintaining and organizing supplies to support dispensing
  • Monitor fridge temperatures and report variances to the Pharmacy Manager
  • Ensure safe and appropriate storage of medications
  • Contribute to ongoing review of pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Perform accounts receivables, payments and other administrative duties as required
