About this role

This position provides technical support to pharmacists through preparation of unit doses, data entry, delivery of medications, and cartfill exchange. The role functions as a liaison and a point of contact for various pharmacy operations and interdisciplinary team members.

Day-to-day duties include computer order entry of outpatient orders, investigating billing rejections, triaging prior authorization requests, and selecting ordered medications from inventory to fill new orders. The technician also coordinates medication delivery with patients, including verifying FedEx delivery information and outreach to set up delivery and verify receipt.

Working under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, this role supports a diverse patient population ranging from neonates to the elderly. The technician provides telephonic support for patients in the Specialty Pharmacy Program, transplant patients, and clinic administered medication delivery, as well as telephonic outreach for program introduction, enrollment, and refill reminders.

This position offers the opportunity to develop expertise in specialty pharmacy operations, billing systems, and prior authorization routing. The technician will interact with other health care team members and patients, displaying a high level of customer service commitment while supporting specialty pharmacy clinics and processing specialty prescriptions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License
  • 1 year of pharmacy work experience, or equivalent additional education
  • Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Health career Association (must be maintained)
  • Must possess computer keyboarding skills
  • Ability to read and understand medical-related terms
  • Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations
  • Skill at manipulating small objects, e.g., needles, syringes, ampules

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacist through computer order entry of outpatient orders
  • Investigate billing rejections, triage prior authorization requests, and evaluate DWO forms for OMNISYS billing
  • Select ordered medications from inventory to fill new orders
  • Coordinate medication delivery with patients including verifying FedEx delivery information and outreach to set up delivery and verify receipt
  • Prioritize new orders according to delivery date and dispensing urgency
  • Provide telephonic support for Specialty Pharmacy Program, transplant patients, and clinic administered medication delivery
  • Provide telephonic outreach to patients for Specialty Pharmacy Program including program introduction, enrollment, and refill reminders
  • Support specialty pharmacy clinics and clinic pharmacists to process specialty prescriptions and conduct benefit investigation
