About this role
The Senior Antimicrobial Pharmacist provides a pharmaceutical service to patients consistent with the mission and ethos of the Pharmacy Department and Beaumont Hospital. This temporary full-time role reports to the appropriate Pharmacy Service line manager or Clinical Specialist Pharmacist, who reports to the Head of Pharmacy Services. The department strives to safely source, store, formulate, and distribute drugs to improve patient quality of life.
Review medications for inpatients, checking every prescription order for accuracy and suitability while ensuring safe dispensing per relevant SOP. Obtain detailed patient medication history from patient, GP, or Community Pharmacy to manage drug-drug interactions and discuss with consultants as needed. Educate and counsel patients on medications, side effects, adherence, and review relevant laboratory results.
Participate as part of a punctual, dedicated, and professional team, promoting open communications and healthy working relationships. Demonstrate behaviour consistent with hospital values, maintaining principles of equity, accountability, and quality. Engage in departmental mentor/mentee and tutor/tutee programmes under direction of Chief II Pharmacist.
Supply medicines and related items, ensuring storage, supply, and dispensing consistent with quality and value for money. Identify, develop, and implement policies and processes to best practice standards under supervision. Interact closely with medical and nursing colleagues to advise on safe, effective medicine use and provide medicines information.
Requirements
- Registration as a pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland
- Clinical expertise in antimicrobial stewardship and pharmacology
- Proficiency in hospital pharmacy services and medication review
- Knowledge of prescription verification, drug interactions, and patient medication history reconciliation
- Skills in patient counselling, education, and adherence monitoring
- Ability to interpret laboratory results relevant to antimicrobial therapy
- Experience advising multidisciplinary teams on rational medicine use
