Mercy Medical Center seeks a dedicated Clinical Oncology Pharmacist for the Hall Perrine Cancer Center Pharmacy. Oversee the safe, efficient, and cost-effective preparation of chemotherapy, biologic therapy, and supportive care medications for patients. Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, clinical services, and education for oncology patients, healthcare staff, and providers at Hall Perrine Cancer Center. Review, evaluate, and interpret medication orders for appropriateness. Utilize IV workflow technology to verify compounded sterile products.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary team members to ensure safe and cost-effective medication therapy. Participate in provider and multidisciplinary meetings as required. Respond to medical emergencies in HPCC as needed.
Support the Lead Oncology Pharmacist in mentoring and training clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Serve as a supporting Preceptor to PGY1 pharmacy residents and pharmacy school students in elective Oncology Rotations. Demonstrate evidence of continued professional development specifically in oncology pharmacy.
Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree
- Active pharmacist licensure
- Specialized knowledge in oncology pharmacy and cancer therapies
- Experience with chemotherapy, biologic therapy, and hazardous drug preparation
- Proficiency in monitoring new oncology therapies and adverse drug reactions
- Ability to utilize IV workflow technology for sterile compounding verification
- Training in safe handling of hazardous antineoplastic drugs
- Competency in oncology medication order review and clinical interventions
Responsibilities
- Oversee the safe and effective use of cancer medications, including dose adjustments, monitoring for toxicity, and managing adverse drug reactions
- Collaborate with HPCC team members to support complex medication therapy expansions and services
- Assist in the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure safe handling, preparation, and administration of hazardous drugs
- Support the education, training, competency assessment, and performance improvement of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and healthcare professionals in oncology-related use
- Serve as a supporting Preceptor to PGY1 pharmacy residents and pharmacy school students in elective Oncology Rotations
- Review, evaluate, and interpret medication orders for appropriateness
- Provide clinical pharmacy services through consultation, drug information, teaching, and committee work
- Oversee distribution and preparation of sterile compounds including hazardous antineoplastic items and dispense take-home medications
