About this role

Reporting to the Pharmacy Manager or Operations Manager, the Registered Pharmacy Technician participates in the provision of safe, competent, patient or family centered ethical care. They prepare, package, and dispense medication under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, prioritizing the goals and needs of the patient.

Responsibilities include compounding of sterile and non-sterile dosage forms, dispensing drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose, and performing physician order entry. The technician works with automation, manages inventory control, conducts medication reconciliation, and participates in CIVA systems.

This role is based at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre within the Northern Zone of Nova Scotia Health. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSPR) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) is an asset.
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, is an asset.
  • Candidates actively pursuing Pharmacy Technician licensure within Nova Scotia will be considered if no fully qualified candidates are available.
