This hybrid Clinical Pharmacist role supports the Cigna Pharmacy Clinical Program Support team, focusing on clinical research, drug formulary maintenance, and regulatory responsibilities tied to the Cigna Healthcare US Employer formularies. The position provides clinical expertise and day-to-day support while partnering across a highly matrixed environment of business partners.

Day-to-day responsibilities include providing clinical subject matter expertise for new-to-market medications, developing and maintaining drug lists aligned with product offerings, and researching drug data such as pipeline medications, shortages, and discontinuations. The role also involves preparing summary and audit files for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and other quality oversight committees.

This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with teams including Formulary Strategy, Clinical Operations, Compliance, Legal, and Account Management. The Clinical Pharmacist acts with a sense of urgency across the enterprise to execute against timelines and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy required; PharmD preferred.
  • Active pharmacist license in any US State.
  • 2+ years' experience working in a managed care, health plan, Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) organization, or formulary management.
  • Solid understanding of evidence-based medicine, interpreting clinical literature, and standards of care.
  • Experience supporting regulatory compliance, quality initiatives, or enterprise clinical programs.
  • Results driven by proven communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills working in a fast-paced and highly matrixed environment.
  • Self-directed, adaptable leader with strong sense of ownership and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical subject matter expertise to the release and placement of new-to-market medications.
  • Provide clinical research support to formulary strategy leads to enhance clinical affordability and total health outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain drug lists that align with product offerings to ensure clinical and regulatory intent is met.
  • Research and report out drug data such as pipeline medications, drug shortages, and drug discontinuations.
  • Prepare summary and audit files for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee and other quality oversight committees.
  • Review and respond to state and federal mandates to assess business impact and educate on formulary structure and benefit set up.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to respond to RFP inquiries and monitor the team email box for formulary design questions.
  • May be asked to develop and present formulary strategies.
