This role works closely with specific departments and directly with the department pharmacist to maintain and improve pharmacy services for assigned areas. Prepares medication and delivers to assigned areas under pharmacist supervision. Interacts directly with nursing staff to assure medication needs are met timely and accurately.
Maintains documentation as required by law and actively participates in medication audits to assure accurate charging of medications. Assists in efficient medication distribution to provide safe patient care. Compounds IV admixtures and fills pharmacy orders accurately.
Maintains competency through assigned in-services and performs required audits and QA procedures. Adapts behavior to specific patient populations, respecting privacy and explaining procedures clearly. Discover your future making an impact in pharmacy services.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- Certified Pharmacy Technician Licensure or National Certification
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages, and keyboard
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment
Responsibilities
- Assists pharmacist and other technicians to maintain an efficient medication distribution system for safe patient care
- Accurately compounds IV admixtures and other extemporaneous preparations utilizing aseptic techniques
- Accurately fills all pharmacy orders and automated dispensing machines, maintaining proper chain of custody for controlled substances
- Accurately and efficiently loads and unloads medications to automated dispensing machines
- Maintains competency by completing assigned mandatory in-services
- Performs required audits, unit inspections, and QA procedures
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and adapting explanations
