About this role

The Cert Pharmacy Tech II aids pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care services to patients by assisting in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, and transporting of medications for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Under minimal supervision, this role performs all duties of a Certified Pharmacy Technician at a high level of proficiency while demonstrating exemplary work behaviors and ownership for the success of the work area.

VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion is a new four-story ambulatory surgery center and medical office building scheduled to open in April 2027, bringing pharmacy services and outpatient care to one of Virginia’s fastest-growing communities.

The CPhT II handles increased responsibilities in medication coordination, compounding, and packaging while supporting multiple pharmacy service shifts and sites across the organization.

Requirements

Current PTCB certification or valid ExCPT certification
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy
Clean criminal record with no felony convictions or pharmacy-related offenses
One year of previous pharmacy practice experience
High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

Demonstrate competency in all CPhT I responsibilities at a high level of proficiency
Maintain medications and supplies used for compounding purposes
Compound various medication formulations according to United States Pharmacopeia requirements
Repackage bulk medications into unit-dosed forms including patient-specific doses
Acclimate to additional pharmacy-related technologies supporting packaging and compounding
Provide staffing support among multiple pharmacy service shifts and sites
Train other team members or students regarding CPhT II shifts and skills
